Consolidated Plan Public Input

What We Typically Do

The Cumberland County Community Development Office helps local towns, cities, and non-profit organizations fund housing, public infrastructure, and economic development projects. The money we use to fund those projects comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's  Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Partnership programs.

How CDBG Works

What We're Currently Working On

Before we receive any CDBG or HOME money, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires we show how the projects we would support with their funds address the needs of local people. The image below describes that process for figuring out where to spend the federal government's money.

Why it's crucial we hear from you

Our next five year plan is due at the beginning of 2022, and before we can plan how to spend money to address your needs, we need to understand exactly what those needs are

In order to figure out what needs fixing in Cumberland County, we'd usually visit as many towns as possible to listen to community members describe their needs and concerns. However, until the State lifts social distancing restrictions, we need you to tell us how we can be useful over the internet.

How Exactly You Can Help

We'd love to hear from you if you have personally experienced any of the following...

...regularly use a community center or recreation area that is managed by a town or city in Cumberland County (such as a park, baseball field, or recreation center)

Usually, surveys are the easiest way for us to make sure tons of people can tell us exactly what they need. So: we've created one for you. If you're interested in providing us your thoughts, click on the link to our survey in to the next section of this webpage.

As we compile our plan over the next few months, we will be analyzing responses to that survey regularly. That means by diligently answering our questions, you’re ensuring we hear your opinion when we decide how to distribute millions of dollars to organizations across Cumberland County.

Our survey has closed! Thank you to all that participated; your input was greatly appreciated and thoughtfully considered.
