April 10, 2008

Hello Folks, a day early, (and likely a dollar short), but what a GREAT day in Vacationland, the perfect day fro ICE CREAM- right guys? It is for days like this that we put up with the winters like we have had. So far, the yankees nor the SOX have much to brag about. At this rate it will be who doesn't finish in the cellar.....
this week in The County:

1) The jail consolidation bill was passed by the Criminal Justice Comm overwhelmingly, and is currently winding it's way through the legislature. It is still very tentative, and there is no prediction as to its outcome. This action has a tremendous bearing on the future of not only prisons and jails, but taxes in the State for years to come.

2) Our new consultant for the radio system, from the Kimball Assoc. has been in town and put us back on track for the program. We will have the negotiated two to three year prices for mobiles and portables FOR ALL COUNTY MUNICIPALITIES by about May 5th this year. We intend to have all bids for the entire system reviewed and a decision made by the first part of July. (this year)

3) Nassau Broadcasting (FRANK, WTHT and WLAM) are running public service announcements about our prescription drug program. When completed at the end of April, we will have received over $65,000 in FREE promotion. Thank you Pat Collins. (GM)

4) We have FOUR tickets to the Pirates playoff games- RSVP to this email and I will draw 16 "winners". I put that in quotes because it is for all home playoff games, and that includes finals, etc, plus they may not go all 7 games in a series, so it will not only be luck to win tickets, but luck if your game is played, but send in your name.

5) Deputy Paul Pettingill is assisting with the Standish Volunteers in Police Service Fund raisers: "This is the groups first fund raiser on their own, and they are very excited about it. Knowing the VOLUNTEERS who have taken charge of the supper, you will not be disappointed. The money raised at these events will go for various things needed by the volunteers, such as uniforms, equipment, etc. It is understood this will be an on-going monthly event, every second Saturday of the month. Please come support our VIPS. It is scheduled for April 12, starting at 430 PM (1630) at the STEEP FALLS FIRE STATION on the Boundary Road in Standish. It is only $6 per person, under 10 FREE." Get out and get some good grub and help a great cause.

6) The next Commissioners meeting will be Monday, 4/14 at 530 PM (1730) in the Feeney Conference Room.

7) We should take special note of how nice our facilities guys have cleaned the grounds around the Courthouse this week- thanks guys.

As always, thank you to our County employees who do their best every day to serve the taxpayers of Cumberland County in a friendly, efficient and effective manner. .....And watch out for ticks, now that you are outside more frequently, lyme disease is a horrible sickness.
