The Transport/Court Unit is comprised of ten full-time commissioned Deputy Sheriffs who are supervised by a Staff Sergeant. This unit falls under the direction of the Captain of Security and Operations. Its main function is the transportation of any inmates outside of the secure jail perimeter. This would include all court appearances, medical appointments, etc.
This unit is also responsible for transporting inmates from other county jails and prisons to the Cumberland County Jail for court appearances. Periodically travel to other parts of the country is required when persons are extradited from other states back to Maine.
