The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office founded its full time training unit in 1995. The Unit is responsible for researching, developing and delivering effective training programs to all law enforcement and corrections personnel employed by the Sheriff’s Office. The Training Unit assists employees in identifying and achieving career goals which includes the six week on site Maine Criminal Justice Academy Basic Corrections Training Program and the Master Corrections Officer program. The Unit also oversees the Sheriff’s Office Policy Review Board and the American Correctional Association training standards. The Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to being a pro-active member of the law enforcement community. The sharing of resources and conducting/hosting on site multi-jurisdictional training is part this professional commitment.
