The Food Service area is committed to serving nutritious and well balanced meals at an affordable cost per meal. 527,935 meals at an average cost of $.95 a meal were served in 2005. We can provide this by using offenders as cook’s helpers, dishwashers, pot washers, general kitchen help, and line servers. We operate two shifts seven days a week averaging thirteen workers per shift. All offenders are required to go to a serve safe sanitation class and other related classes after becoming approved to work in food services.
Offenders that show interest in food prep are given the opportunity to advance through the food service area and attain skills that can be used in real life on the outside. They are able to earn credits that can be used towards an associate degree in culinary arts at a community college. We hold offenders responsible for their actions while working in the food service area. We try and build self esteem and confidence so offenders can prepare to go back into the community and become productive citizens.
