County Initiatives

Facilitator, Convener, Service Provider: these are the various roles the county can play depending on the situation and need. Over the past nine years, the county has utilized two five year strategic plans involving dozens of citizens, municipal officials, legislators and business leaders examining issues of importance to the region and the county's governance.

A major focus of Cumberland County government has been researching and developing alternative solutions for less costly and equally or more effective public services, which may or may not involve a prominent role for the county government.

Cumberland County has 19 different contracts for dispatch and police services with towns. We are in a position to provide these services for a marginal cost because we already have the organizational structures in place with our Law Enforcement Division and Regional Communications Center.
