JOB PURPOSE: To provide for the care, custody, and control of residents at the Cumberland County Jail. To supervise residents in their personal and quarters cleanliness according to established rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or equivalent. Two years post secondary education or three years post secondary employment or combination of education and employment to equal at least three years. Completion of Maine Criminal Justice Academy Basic Corrections Course or able to complete same during first year of employment. Must be in good health, able to pass physical examination and various assessment centers. Must be able to physically control violent, unruly members of the inmate population. Must have ability to understand and carry out orders, maintain discipline and orderly conduct. Ability to remain open minded yet firm and calm under stressful conditions. Ability to safeguard confidential or classified information. Currently certified in CPR or able to obtain certification.
REPORTS TO: On duty unit manager, or designee
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains discipline and orderly conduct among inmates following a direct supervision model.

Organizes and prepares inmates for court appearances and escorts them to court.

Supervises the cleaning and disinfecting of inmate quarters and provides necessary linen and supplies.

Arranges transfers from cells when necessary and summonses medical treatment when necessary.

Takes emergency action when necessary.

Supervises recreation, visiting, dining, schools, AA meetings, and other activities.

Intervenes in inmate altercations and escorts unruly inmates into segregation area.

May work in Master Control and/or Intake as assigned.

Performs other related tasks as needed or directed by proper authority.
