Commissioner Malory O. Shaughnessy

Malory Shaughnessy was sworn into office on January 2, 2007 to represent District Three. She has lived in Windham for over twenty years with her husband, Michael Shaughnessy, a Professor of Art at the University of Southern Maine. She is the mother of four boys (now mostly men) and an avid reader.Commissioner Shaughnessy received her Masters Degree in Public Policy from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine in 1991, where she was a research assistant to Professors Richard Barringer and Josie LaPlante. After graduate school, she worked in the office of Congressman Tom Andrews as a Legislative Analyst and Regional Representative. She has since worked in a variety of positions, staffing the Maine Commission on Higher Education Governance, teaching early literacy skills at the primary level, community organizing in the Bayside neighborhood of Portland, and more recently working on community projects to reduce underage drinking and prevent substance abuse in our communities.Currently, Commissioner Shaughnessy is the Statewide Coordinator for the Maine Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse, which represents over thirty agencies and programs working in all sixteen counties of Maine to prevent substance abuse and high risk drinking among youth, and to educate adults about their role in creating healthy communities for our youth. |
