Commissioner Gorden is the managing director of G Group Ltd, a private organization which he created, that consults directly with utility boards and executive managers on a confidential only basis. He also assists major engineering firms as an adjunct consultant to round out their management team portfolio. Prior to that he was Vice President of Corporate Development for AWK, the largest non-municipal water/wastewater organization in the United States; in addition, he was President of its subsidiary American Water Resources. Previously, he served as the Director (CEO) of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, the third largest combined water/wastewater utility in the States, serving 4.2 million people and 137 communities (1,000 square miles) with annual revenues and capital budgets of approximately $3.6 MM and $4 MM to $6 MM, respectively. Locally, he was employed as the Director of Operations for the Portland Water District.

During his career, Commissioner Gorden served on many national and international boards, represented the water industry in Washington and chaired their national legislative committees; testified before Congress on multiple occasions and collaborated with national EPA on environmental issues. He has served in many capacities in many national water professional organizations and was President of the American Water Works Association, the world's largest water professional organization, traveling throughout the United States and Europe representing the drinking water industry. Upon returning to Maine, he served on the Cumberland County Charter Commission.

Commissioner Gorden obtained an engineering degree from UMO and a MBA from the Whittemore School of Business at UNH. He is married with five sons and two grandchildren.
